Porcelain Veneer Application Process
Applying porcelain veneers typically takes two visits. Because we are a multidisciplinary dental practice, our nationally acclaimed master veneer technician and our cosmetic dentist work together to achieve incredible results.
Dr. Benjamin Ifraimov, our director of cosmetic dentistry, works with prosthodontist and master lab technician Dr. Han to produce the most beautiful porcelain veneers. The veneers are made right in our office at 172 NYC Dental, allowing for rapid production of the products and a close relationship between the cosmetic team and you.
The veneer process involves a consultation and two more visits to achieve the best results for your smile. During these visits, our team will work on perfecting your smile and providing you with bright, healthy-looking teeth.
1. Initial Consultation
During your initial consultation, you will meet with the doctor to evaluate your teeth, express your cosmetic concerns, and work out a treatment plan. Some oral health issues may prevent you from being a candidate for porcelain veneers — if this is the case, we will discuss other potential choices and recommend your best treatment.
After the meeting, you will speak with a treatment coordinator to work out your treatment costs and payment options, along with any further questions you may have.
2. First Visit
Your first visit will involve the removal of enamel, a dental impression, and fitting temporary veneers on your teeth. The veneers we use are extremely thin at 1.5 millimeters — however, they still take up space on the surface of your tooth.
The visit will begin with removing a small layer of enamel from your teeth, to prevent overlapping and provide adequate space for the veneer. Depending on your teeth, we will use either a digital impression using a 3D scanner or a traditional impression to capture the shape and alignment of your teeth.
After impressions, you will receive temporary veneers to protect your teeth while we craft your custom porcelain veneers. You will wear the temporary veneers for a few weeks, during which time you will be able to eat, drink, and speak like normal while you adjust to having veneers on your teeth.
3. Second Visit
Once the porcelain veneers are complete, you will have your second visit. We remove the temporary veneers and adhere the porcelain veneers to the tooth with a dental bonding cement. Lastly, we buff the new veneers to look and feel natural. After your procedure, we will construct official Invisalign Vivera Retainers for you. These ultra-thin, comfortable retainers will hold your beautiful smile in place while protecting you from teeth grinding in your sleep.
Once the procedure is over, the doctor will discuss follow-up care and any questions you may have. Some people experience slight discomfort and sensitivity in the first few days as they adjust to having veneers on their teeth. After the doctor applies your porcelain veneers, you will have a bright set of teeth that compliments your face shape and complexion.
Benefits of Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers can give you your confidence back. You can appear friendlier and more professional with a bright, improved smile. Transforming your smile has many benefits, and our veneers are:
- Long-lasting and durable
- Easy to care for
- Quick to recover from
- Confidence-boosting
- Natural and attractive
In addition to these benefits, our talented team can take care of multiple dental issues at once during your veneer treatment, reducing your overall time spent in the dentist’s chair. Receiving a complete transformation for your smile can help you become happier and more self-assured and can have a positive impact on your lifestyle.
How to Clean Porcelain Veneers
Caring for veneers is similar to cleaning natural teeth, with a few modifications. Porcelain is stain resistant but still requires regular care to help it last as long as possible. If well taken care of, veneers can last for decades.
To properly care for your porcelain veneers, we recommend that you:
- Wear a night guard or retainer when sleeping.
- Brush gently with a soft-bristled toothbrush after eating.
- Floss regularly.
- Avoid astringent mouthwash and abrasive toothpaste.
- Use a water flosser for spaces dental floss cannot reach.
If you have any concerns or questions about caring for your veneers, follow up with your dentist to find the best way to care for your new porcelain veneers.
How Much Do Porcelain Veneers Cost at 172 NYC Dental?
Porcelain veneers can fix several cosmetic dental concerns in a relatively short period when you have an expert team of dental professionals on your side. While the cost for veneers varies based on your insurance provider or the number of veneers needed, we strive to make this option as affordable as possible. We do this by providing a variety of different specialties under one roof, saving you money by reducing the number of consultations and preliminary visits you attend.
Our team of treatment coordinators works very hard to maximize insurance coverage and minimize your out-of-pocket expenses. If your work has medical/dental implications (pathology), there is a good chance that your PPO insurance will cover part of the cost.
We want our patients to experience exquisite dental work without invasion into their other financial responsibilities. Our preliminary consultations are complimentary, and we also offer convenient interest-free financing if needed. Making these cases affordable is the first step in making you smile.
